I've been thinking a lot about responsibility for the last few weeks.  Specifically, MY responsibilities as an Estate Owner to the residents in New Toulouse.  I have always had a list of things in my head, ever since I bought my first sim of Edison and then New Toulouse, that I feel are my responsibilities as an Estate Owner.  I realized recently that I have not documented those thoughts anywhere.  I think it's time that I do so!

To understand how I have formed my beliefs on Estate Ownership responsibility, I need to take you back in time, to another community...Caledon.  Ahhh the dreaded "C" word!  Those of you with "Caledon complexes" really need to get over them, because the reality is that the majority of the Steamlands/19th Century Grid owe some part, if not all, of their existence to Caledon.  Shaunathan Sprocket lived in Caledon before he built New Babbage, the current Mayor Mr. Tenk, and some of his staff, lived in or spent a decent amount of time i…

Leave Your Sleep

It takes a lot for an album to impress me.

Yesterday My Lady Wife Dragon Azul, sent me a link to Natalie Merchant's latest album.  I was only mildly curious about it, because I would not have called myself a huge Natalie Merchant "fan".  I liked her work, but the only album of hers that I had ever purchased (outside of her work with 10,000 Maniacs) was her solo debut, 1995's "Tigerlily".

Then I began to read a description of the album.  "Turn of the 19th and 20th Century poems set to music..."  Hello!  My Neo-Victorian senses engaged, and I listened to a few of the tracks.  I was sufficiently impressed to decide to buy the album, "Leave Your Sleep".

I listened to the album in its entirety...twice.  I blathered like a swooning Fan Girl in Plurk and in the Radio Riel Group inside of Second Life.  What an extraordinary work.  One of the reasons I like it so much, is that in some ways, it's like a distillation of all of the varieties of …

Pull My Strings

I had an enjoyable chat last night with some friends at Le Vieux Canal after my show there.  I was discussing how it's impossible for me (well, anyone!) to please everyone all of the time and how I, like it or not, usually have someone mad at me about a decision I have made, or not made, in the manner that they wanted.

I decided to share a big secret with the people that were present...I told them that I would reveal to them exactly what they, or anyone else, should do if they wanted to manipulate me into doing what they wanted me to do.

To get me on your side or to do something you want or need, approach me and communicate with me in the following manner...

Be nice. Be friendly. Be positive.  Be polite.

Yes, there it is ladies and gentlemen!  Exactly what you need to do to have Gabrielle Riel eating out of your hand!  My background is as an educator.  I *like* to help people, as long as they are nice and polite.  You could be on Radio Riel's staff, an NT resident, a business …

Laughter is the shortest distance between two people

"Laughter is the shortest distance between two people" - Victor Borge

Yes, some of you figured it out!  My post here yesterday was an April Fool's joke cooked up between myself and Hotspur Otoole.  I am sure that there are many of you reading this that are thinking: Gabi and Hotspur did an April Fool's joke together?? What does that mean?  (For those of you not in the know, there has been a conflict between Hotspur and myself over the last 7 months, some of which played out in public.)

It means that the conflict is over.  Both Hotspur and I are closing this chapter and moving on.  He and I have had a chance to have some excellent private conversations over the past several days, which I appreciate greatly.  I've learned some valuable lessons and realized a major blessing in my life.  I also have some things that I need to "process", and that will take some time for me.

I have been in SL for 4 years.  Hotspur has been in for about 3 1/2.  He and I were b…
