Important St John (Parish) Announcement

Dear St John Parish Residents:

I am sending this communication to you directly via notecard in Second Life.

I am also sending it via in-world group notice and I am posting it on The St John Intelligencer and my Songs From The Nightingale blog so all St John residents can see it, however this information is of utmost importance to the residents of the St John Parish region.

First of all, I apologize for the very late notice about this, but something that will benefit St John greatly has come together suddenly and from out of the blue. I had to make a difficult decision to move forward with this in spite of a less-than-ideal timeline.

Please know that I would have made more time for this change if I had been able to. Sadly the logistics have worked out in a way that require us to make some drastic changes in a very short amount of time in the St John Parish sim.

So...what is this change?

I have been offered the opportunity to acquire a grandfathered full sim. Right now I pay $1370 USD per mon…

Hurricane Gabrielle

Continued from:
I was sitting at the kitchen table across from CC in hangover agony and sipping my orangeade hangover cure when I said, “Let’s have the very bad news now CC.”
CC opened the folder on the table. I saw exactly what I had expected to see, which were weather forecast documents and telegrams.
“The U.S. Weather Bureau started sending these yesterday evening,” said CC. “I was in the process of gathering all of this to come notify you when Kitty called and told me that you were...incapacitated…at The Nightingale.”
I winced in regret. Lovely. Some Prim Minister I was, off getting blind drunk as an emergency was developing that would threaten St John.
“Thank you for coming over and for bringing this information CC,” I said. “I’m sorry I was not in a place to be able to hear it last evening. So, I assume this means what I think it means? There is a hurricane on the way?”
CC nodded and then...smirked. An actual smirk! What o…

The Party's Over

The first awareness I had was the music. I know this song, I thought...

What song is this, I wondered?

Ohh, I recognized it. It was Astrid S, “The Party’s Over”.

The words and tune floated through the darkness behind my eyelids, filling me.

“Pour all the champagne, make it rain, have our own parade, we don't feel a thing, Chardonnay, running through our veins…”

Ow. I winced. Oh my head…

My head hurt. Badly. Really, really badly!

I thought, maybe it won’t hurt so badly if I don’t try to move. So I remained still, listening to the music.

“We don't have to go, go home,we can stay here, laid out on the floor, have one more 'til the room clears, pour all the Champagne, make it rain, we can stay here, stay here...”

A brief memory flash from the previous evening hit me. I was sitting at the bar at The Nightingale, drinking Chardonnay. I had started with Chardonnay. Then switched to Pinot Noir. Then to my favorite, Champagne.

I hadn’t been alone. Selena and Pru were t…

A Shotgun Wedding in 1920s New York

I had needed to get out of St John.

The month of April 1917 had been incredibly stressful on all levels.

On the global level, President Wilson had called for war on Germany, and on April 6, the US Congress had declared it. I had no idea what this was going to mean for St John and its residents. All I knew was that I was living in dread of what fresh horrors I would read about in the daily newspaper.

In my personal world, I had played 8 gigs in 9 days at the beginning of the month and then played 4 gigs in 4 days at the end of the month. I had hosted the 3rd Court of Carntaigh Presentation Ball and celebrated my 11 years in Second Life. I had not managed this many events and gigs in such a short time since 1908.

In the midst of that crazy work schedule, I had new opportunities with old friends. I had existing bonds of friendship strengthened. And in one case, I had not only broken a bond with someone that I had loved very much, but I had watched a year of beautiful memories go up in fl…
